Why I Copyfight (Cory Doctorow)

Why I Copyfight is an article in Locus Magazine by Cory Doctorow explaining the effect of copyright on culture, and asking why pasting a Dilbert cartoon to your fridge is fine but putting a photo of that Dilbert cartoon on a fridge onto the Web is criminal.

My question is that if so many of us are being criminalised by the current copyright laws then obviously something is wrong. And our governments should be acting to decriminalising our actions. One thing I would add, particularly about the effect of criminalising youth, is that once you’re a criminal then why not do more crime-like criminal activity? Don’t ask why taggers tag, or even why someone doesn’t take drug laws seriously. If we’re all being made as criminals - well all bets are off in the world of teenagers. We get what we pay for…
